Pee-jay hearts Pony-style

Lately I seem to be channeling an equestrian-esk styled outfit everyday….not sure if it’s my addiction to riding boots…or the fact that I would prefer to wear tights or jodhpurs any day over jeans….but I seem to be looking more like I’m going horse riding than to the office each morning.

From Ralph Lauren to Hermes to Givenchy there all seems to be a bit of horse-play in the air with fashion trends this winter. Not that I’m complaining….I think I could get use to this trend so much that I may even need to live on ranch. Boots, bags, belts and even watches have all got a “back in the saddle” feel about them…….the only thing that’s not required for this Equestriennes look is a helmet!

pee-jay hearts dancing

After stumbling on my new years resolution list of “things to do” ……it was disappointing to see that I had yet to cross off anything on the list and it was already June!….
‘do more yoga, meditate, take a dance class etc along with drink less, eat healthy save more yadda yadda yadda……so I decided to take myself down to Sydney Dance Company on Hickson Wharf for a beginners hip-hop class.

Up until now I had kept using the excuse that I didn’t have proper dance shoes or that I had no one to go with and didn’t really love the idea of embarrassing my self ridin’ solo….….So with the procrastinating pushed aside for this week, I find myself waiting in the foyer of the dance school on a cool Saturday morning…a little more nervous than I expected….

The class is filled with an assortment of dancers; high school kids, mums that obviously had danced their whole lives but had never given up the dream, young guys who had obviously been dragged along by their girlfriends and some young adolescents dressed like they want to be in the next Ne-yo film clip.

After a gruelling 1.5 hours of warm ups, sit ups, stretches, popping, grinding and an attempt to learn a short routine…… I look like I have been in a sauna! But it was well worth it…. I walk out of the dance studio with a bounce in my step and a grin on my face…..and I make a promise to myself that I will be coming back on a regular basis.

I now make it my weekly ritual to attend a class of a Saturday morning and it is now the highlight of my week! I have taken a liking to Louie George’s Jazz class at 10am for any one out there that wants to give it a try. Louie is fun, fabulous and makes everyone laugh.

Rediscovering my passion for dancing has given me a breath of fresh air…. I feel like a kid again for that 1.5 hour dance class…… I dance around the studio like no one is watching….
Now to the next item on my list: Mediation….

Peace + love
